Ted Pearse of the Tongariro Ski Club obtained plans for a tow called "The Sweden Freezer Pertable Speed Rope Tow". he and his friend Sam Wathen built this kiwi prototype which was mounted on a sledge so it could be easily moved. Its trial, in 1946 on Home Run at the back of the Ruapehu Ski Club Hut, was very successful.
