Ride chairlifts over stunning volcanic terrain to the top of the Waterfall Express Chairlift at an altitude of 2020 meters above sea level. Once there you can take in the breathtaking views of Mt Ruapehu's summit, Tongariro National Park and the Central North Island.
Lifts operate from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm daily. Last ride up is at 3:30 pm.
If weather conditions deteriorate during the day we may close lifts earlier than planned. If this happens and you miss your lift ride down you will need make your way back to the base area on foot.

Short Walks
Skyline Ridge is just a short walk from Knoll Ridge Cafe. It is a 1.5 to 2 hour round trip that takes you from the top of the Waterfall Express chairlift (altitude 2020 meters above sea level) to Skyline Ridge (altitude 2300 meters above sea level). From this altitude you can see across Tongariro National Park, Mt Ngauruhoe, Mt Tongariro and Lake Taupo.
Meads Wall walk can be done without riding chairlifts. It's a 30 minute walk along a marked trail starting from the top of the mountain road, not far from where you park your car. Take in the rugged volcanic terrain and cinematic history.
The Lord of The Rings trilogy used the Meads Wall area as a filming location. If you've seen the movies you will feel the familiarity as you walk around the area.
