Trip Details

Meet your guide at the base area of Whakapapa Ski Area for a welcome and safety briefing for the day ahead. Starting out at 1630 meters above sea level, we take a scenic chairlift ride to 2020 meters above sea level. These lifts take us past ancient lava flows that have been carved out by glaciation in the last 300,000 years to expose the layers for us to see. We hike on Restful Ridge for about 2 hours to 2670 meters above sea level where the Mt Ruapehu Crater Lake can be viewed. Then it's off back down through one of the glacial valleys that contain snow until about February, which we can often slide down on - a real highlight!
