Instructing is arguably one of the best jobs on the mountain. You get heaps of time on the snow, meet lots of great people and get to share your love of the sport with others.
It’s not an easy career to get started in, or get your foot in the door at a Snow School, so we have designed a range of instructor training programmes to help fast track you toward the relevant qualifications and / or a place with our Snow Schools.
Mt Ruapehu offers a number of great training programmes to prepare you for the NZSIA (ski) or SBINZ (snowboard) exams.

Turoa Snowsports InstituteThe ultimate season long immersion into Snowsports instruction.14 weeks of full time fun (accommodation provided or you can organise your own) that prepares you for Level 2 certification and gives you experience as an instructor teaching within the Snowschool. |

Instructor ApprenticeshipFor New Zealand residents with a high level of skiing or snowboarding and strong understanding of the qualities required to become an instructor. We hold a hiring clinic and offer an instructor apprenticeship to a limited number of people each year. |

Weekend Instructor ProgrammesIf you don't want to give up your day job but do want to get qualified, Turoa offers a range of programmes that will prepare you for NZSIA Level 1 or Level 2 exams. |
