Group lessons
Group Lessons are a great way to improve your skills in a fun, relaxed environment. You will be grouped with similar level skiers/boarders and children will be grouped with others of a similar age and ability. The lessons last 1 hour 50 minutes* and can be taken on any one of a range of slopes depending on your ability.
Note: If there are 4 or less people in a group lesson the lesson time will be reduced accordingly.

We can categorise group lessons broadly into three types:
- Discover: Your very first time skiing or snowboarding
- Novice: or advanced beginner, you may have tried skiing or snowboarding for a day or two at some stage, possibly not completely comfortable controlling your speed or making turns.
- Intermediate – Advanced: Comfortable riding chairlifts and skiing or riding down the trails, we’ll group you based on your ability and goals

At Whakapapa
- Discover lessons for first timers are held in Happy Valley; Meet at the Snow School meeting area flags in Happy Valley; Lessons go every half hour from 9.30am - 2pm
- Novice (advanced beginners) lessons depart from the Snow School Meeting area on Hut Flat at 10am, 12pm and 2pm.
- No bookings are necessary for Discover and Novice lessons - just purchase your lesson ticket when you arrive for the day.
- Intermediate and Advanced lessons depart from the Knoll Ridge Snow School Meeting Area at Whakapapa at 10am, 12pm and 2pm.
At Turoa
- You will be booked in for a specific time when you purchase your lesson ticket from our new Snow School sales office in the plaza area.
- Group lessons start at 10am, 12pm and 2pm.
- Discover and Novice lessons are held in the Alpine Meadow; Meet at the Snow School flags at the top of the Alpine Meadow.
- Intermediate and Advanced lessons depart from the Wintergarden Snow School Hut, you can also purchase your lessons at the Wintergarden Hut.
