Opening Hours

The Clinic is open 7 days from 0830hrs to16:30hrs during the winter season when the ski area is open.
If possible, we ask you to come in the morning with any medical complaints as we can get quite busy later in the day with accidents.

As this is a private clinic, there are additional charges for use of the clinic which are not covered by ACC

About Us

Our Medical Centres have been treating patients on Mt Ruapehu for over 25 years. We are a designated 'level 2' Accident and Medical clinic, accredited by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), and approved for training in Accident and Medical Practice, a branch of medicine recognised by the Medical Council of New Zealand and administered by the Accident and Medical Practitioners' Association. Each year we are audited to ensure we meet standards and maintain a high standard of medical care.

Staff work at both Turoa and Whakapapa medical centres. Each year we employ four nurses, three radiographers, and up to four doctors. Staff are highly skilled in acute medical care and must have at least three years post graduate experience. Employees come from all over the world and New Zealand in order to get a valuable insight into snowsports trauma and gain experience in pre-hospital care.

We work closely with ski patrol on the mountain to provide both accident and urgent medical services. On a busy day we can see up to 40 patients and we are comfortable dealing with both paediatric and adult trauma cases. The majority of accidents and medical complaints can be sorted out by the clinic but we also have referral pathways to all hospitals should expert advice and treatment be required.

Both clinics are purpose built and house a four bed examination and treatment area, a private consultation room, heated waiting areas, and X-Ray facilities. Both practices were computerised in 2001 and we have been performing X-Rays on site for 21 years. In 2011 we installed a computerised X-Ray system giving us better quality pictures.
