Sightseeing

Experience the largest maunga (mountain) on the North Island this winter.

Weather permitting, winter sightseeing is available at Tūroa on the Parklane Chair Lift and Whakapapa on the Sky Waka Gondola. Suitable for all ages and perfect for families, it is a great way to get a taste of the alpine environment if you are not a skier or snowboarder, and enjoy snow play within a designated fenced area. Note: to exit onto the slopes you must have purchased a valid Anytime or Weekday day pass, Season Pass or Life Pass.

At both ski areas the first ride up from the base area is at 10 am, the last ride up is at 3:30 pm and the last ride down is at 4 pm.

Closed footwear is mandatory. Warm and waterproof clothing is recommended. Please check the snow report for sightseeing status.

While you're here, enjoy a coffee, a meal or a drink at one of our eateries.

Whakapapa Sightseeing - Sky Waka

Sit back and enjoy the spectacular ride on New Zealand's longest gondola, the Sky Waka. Take in the awe-inspiring views of the World Heritage National Park from the comfort of a 10-seater cabin.

Arrive at 2,020m above sea level to the Knoll Ridge Chalet, home to the highest café in the country. Enjoy a coffee from the upstairs deck, or grab a delicious snack or lunch and marvel at the views from the huge floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking The Pinnacles.

Note: To exit onto the slopes you must have purchased a valid Anytime or Weekday day pass, Season Pass or Life Pass.

Snow Play

Sledding is available at both Tūroa and Whakapapa. At Tūroa join us at Yeti's Sliding Zone, while at Whakapapa zoom along in Happy Valley. Both ski areas have specially groomed sledding slopes, for you to slide your way to the bottom of a carpet lift, then ride back up - no walking involved!

Pro Tip: At both Tūroa and Whakapapa, there are only a limited number of spots available and it is prone to selling out quickly! To avoid disapointment make sure you book your slot early. At Tūroa this is at Guest Services and at Whakapapa this is at Happy Valley Rentals.

Please note: Guests need to be 8 years of age, or older, to be able to ride in the sled by themselves. Anyone under this age would need to be accompanied by an adult, who would also need a ticket.
