The Ladylike Movement - Girls Park Day
Tuesday, June 1
Calling all Ladies to the park! Are you looking to improve your freestyle skills? Have you ever wanted to learn how to slide a box/rail and hit a jump? This day is for you! Coached by Women for Women, featuring some of New Zealand's top freestyle athletes!
The Ladylike Movement is all about challenging the societal norms placed on women to be poised and collected by breaking stereotypes and shredding it up on the mountains, because we are wild, playful and mighty!
This event aims to inspire and empower women to lift each other up and be the best they can be through freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Join us for a morning in the Tūroa parks and mini pipe, meet new people and learn new skills in a positive, fun and encouraging ALL GIRLS environment!

All ages are welcome but you MUST be able to ski/board a Blue intermediate run at minimum.

Tūroa Slopestyle Mini Shred - Under 16
Saturday, August 7
The Tūroa Slopestyle Mini Shred is a great way for young skiers & riders to be introduced to competitive snow sports in New Zealand. Using a combination of hits, skiers & boarders put together two runs to impress the judges & throw down for the crowd. Two best runs will be judged.
- Categories: Girls and Boys
- Entry Fee: TBC
- Registration: 8-9:30am on the day.
- Prize giving at 3pm in the Tūroa Plaza.
Event starts at 10:30am!
We'll be throwing it down in the Wintergarden Park!

Tūroa Parks Rail Jam - Tūroa Parks
Saturday, August 14
The Tūroa Parks Rail Jam is set for the 14th of August! Riders are given a timed window to hit the park where they will be judged on style, difficulty, execution, variety & overall impression
- Categories: Male & Female; Snowboard & Ski, Open age group.
The Tūroa Rail Jam is a fun exciting event for every keen park rider. There will be beginner & advanced features.
- Entry and registration will be at the Schools & Groups Hut in the Tūroa Plaza from 8:30am till 9:30am on the day.
- Compulsory on-snow safety briefing at 10am, with the Competition getting underway shortly after! Helmets are compulsory!
Contingency day: Sunday 15th August.

Special Olympics at Tūroa

Tūroa is excited to welcome the Special Olympic Training Team for 4 days of on-snow coaching along with their support crew.
Make sure you welcome them with a great big Tūroa welcome!
Saturday, September 4
A celebration of the beginning of spring skiing and snowboarding in the Ruapehu district.
It’s time to celebrate so break out your dads old one piece or maybe try and fit into your old fluoro pants because the Retro Police will be out and about handing out fashion fines that could win you and your outfit some stunning prizes. Get along to prizegiving at The Kitchen, Ohakune Junction.

SSNZ Slopestyle National Series

The Tūroa SSNZ Slopestyle is a showcase of the best park riders around the North Island and NZ. Using a combination of hits, skiers & boarders put together two runs to impress the judges & throw down for the crowd. Registrations will be managed by SSNZ.
U14 and Open Categories

NZ Junior Freeride Tour (NZJFT) - Tūroa
Saturday, September 18
The third & final stop of the NZ Junior Freeride Tour once again finds itself again at Tūroa. Some of New Zealand’s best young talent will be showcasing their courage and skill. Be sure not to miss out on this!

- Under 10 (depending on demand)
The athletes with the most points in each category after the completion of the tour will be crowned the Overall NZJFT champions.
NISSC- North Island Secondary School Ski Champs
Monday, September 20 - Tuesday, September 21
Ruapehu College is well known among many other schools for its hosting of the North Island Secondary Schools Skiing Competition and commencing in 1997, the North Island Secondary Schools Snowboard Competition.
Starting with an idea by then staff member Alan Graham in 1980, seven schools competed in what was a successful competition.
With current staff continuing the co-ordination of the event it has grown to the stage where well over 100 schools participate. It is the largest skiing event in the Southern Hemisphere and probably the biggest single competition organised by one college.
The event is spread across both ski areas, with ski racing taking place at Whakapapa on Monday and slopestyle being held at Tūroa on Tuesday, making for an exciting two days for competitors.

See some of Mt Ruapehu's & New Zealand's best Skiers and Snowboarders throw down on the North Island's largest jump. Athlete line up coming soon!
Located at the High Flyer Park, this will be a spectacle not to be missed and is certainly one you'll want to watch! Exhibition starting at 11am.
There'll be giveaways and the chance to ride with these athletes, followed by a signing at The Powderkeg later that evening. Stay tuned for more details and specifics - this a must see event right here at Tūroa!

Peak to Powderkeg - Tūroa
Saturday, October 9
The Peak 2 Powderkeg is an iconic four stage adventure race, which in now in its 30th year. Competitors race from the top of Tūroa Ski Area to the Powderkeg bar at the foot of Mt Ruapehu. Participants can enter as an individual or a team of three to complete the stages:
- Ski or Board from top to bottom of the ski area
- 4.8km downhill run on the sealed Ohakune Mountain Road
- 11.5km downhill bike on sealed road, followed by short 300m dash run and beer/lemonade skull.
The event is followed by a barbecue and prize giving at the Powderkeg, which is included in the event entry fee for all entrants. Additional tickets can be bought for supporters and friends.

Tūroa Bikini Downhill
Saturday, October 9
Pink is the colour of the day to raise money for Breast Cancer Foundation. Wear your best bikini and race down the course for a great cause. PLUS, there's heaps of spot prizes to be won!
Taking place in the Wintergarden, this awesome Slalom event is all about having fun, raising awareness and giving it a go!
- Registrations will be at the events hut in the plaza the morning of the event, with the event taking place from 11am.
Entry fee is a donation to NZ Breast Cancer Awareness (eftpos machines will be avalible).
Pond Skim - Tūroa

Will you sink or skim!? You don't know until you try!
You can attempt this as many times as you like, so why not come and give it a go!
